The emerald that started it all
About 20 years ago I was living in Venezuela, working as a graphic designer and generally trying to find my way in this world. One day someone very special to me gave me this tiny little stone. As I held it in my hand, it seemed to shine from a light of its own. It was the most magical thing I'd ever seen and it changed my life forever.
It turns out this is an emerald from Colombia,(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombian_emeralds) and is in fact not so tiny when it comes to gemstones (https://www.gemsociety.org/article/emerald-jewelry-and-gemstone-information/.) But I knew nothing about that at the time. I was so fascinated with it, and the way such a tiny object could hold such sentimental and physical value, the way it shone with a light of its own, the way the color danced around in my fingers.
The spark of change
So that was it, I decided to fly across the 'pond' to London and study gemology at the Gemological Institute of America www.gia.edu/. This was the beginning of a whole new life path for me. I completed every course there I could, eventually earning myself a Graduate Gemologist Diploma. From then on I have been working and designing in the jewellery industry until today. I even became an instructor at that school years later!
From Venezuela to Ethical Jewellery in Iceland
Today I live in Iceland and I pour all that experience and love of gemstones into my own business, which is my number one passion. Ethical Jewellery, keeping small artisanal mines, manufacturers, suppliers alive with my designs.
It's funny how the smallest moments, the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact in your life if you are willing to listen to the signs. I listened, and it changed everything.
